Job summary

The Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies invites applications for an instructor. Under the general direction of the Director of the School of Trades, Faculty of Applied & Technical Studies, the Instructor will organize, develop, manage and instruct Automotive Apprenticeship Levels 1 through 4 as well as Automotive Foundation as required.

We seek a dynamic individual, fully certified as an Automotive Service Technician with relevant and current work experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.  Knowledge and experience related to the evolving technologies in the automotive field including computer control systems and diagnostics is necessary. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a diverse industry background; extensive supervisory and management experience; leadership qualities; good interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills; and a working knowledge of computers and various software applications.  Preference will be given to individuals with additional certifications related to this trade, evidence of on-going upgrading, knowledge of the BC Apprenticeship system and the NOA, and evidence of leading people towards a common goal in a diverse working environment.

This position requires someone who will commit to the on-going development of the Automotive program and has demonstrated abilities for writing lesson plans and exam questions, developing presentations, as well as marketing and promoting this program.  Preference may be given to candidates who have completed or are enrolled in the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program. Applicants should have a demonstrated history of ongoing professional development as both a tradesperson and as an instructor. Applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to creativity, innovation and/or the application of technology in the delivery of educational programs will have an advantage.

Consideration will be given to those who have extensive connections and contacts with the local region and a broad involvement with local businesses and organizations.  This individual will be a creative thinker who has the ability to create excitement and enthusiasm about the trade and the program at UFV. Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to teach and support the diverse student population served by UFV as an open access university. Experience in developing and delivering educational programming to both indigenous and international populations is an asset. Applicants who have additional certification in another trade may have an advantage.
