Under the general direction of the Director of the School of Trades, Faculty of Applied & Technical Studies, the instructor will organize, develop, manage and instruct the Joinery program. This program is offered at the Trades & Technology Centre in Chilliwack, BC.
A dynamic individual, fully certified in the Joinery trade, combined with relevant and current industry work experience. The ideal candidate will have a diverse background including a high level of knowledge and exposure to the latest technology used in the Joinery industry today. The candidate will have extensive industry specific experience; leadership qualities; good interpersonal skills; good oral and written communication skills; and a working knowledge of computers and various software applications. Preference will be given to individuals with knowledge of the BC Apprenticeship Program and evidence of leading people towards a common goal in a diverse working environment.
This position requires someone who will commit to developing the joinery program and has demonstrated abilities for writing lesson plans and exam questions, developing presentations, as well as marketing and promoting this program. Preference may be given to candidates who have completed or are enrolled in the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program. Applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to creativity, innovation and/or the application of technology in the delivery of educational programs will have an advantage.
Consideration will be given to those who have extensive connections and contacts with the local region and a broad involvement with local businesses and organizations. This individual will be a creative thinker who has the ability to create excitement and enthusiasm about the trade and the program at UFV. Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to teach and support the diverse student population served by UFV as an open access university. Experience in developing and delivering educational programming to both indigenous and international populations is an asset. Applicants who have additional certification in another trade may have an advantage.
