Role

The Director of Continuing Education is responsible for oversight of department operations, staff, programming, and budget.

Biography

Liana Thompson is an educational leader, strategist, and trainer with an interest in values-based community and organizational leadership. Liana’s education, work, and leadership experiences are varied and non-traditional. Her education includes study in music, philosophy, human resources management, business management, adult education, curriculum design, and leadership. She has worked in progressive leadership roles in municipal government, national non-profit organizations, and post-secondary institutions. She has researched and written provincially-endorsed risk management plan templates and designed curriculum for a nationally distributed training program. All of these experiences have helped her to build skills in critical and creative thinking, research, conflict management, relationship and team building, strategic planning, policy and procedure writing, risk mitigation, fiscal responsibility, and self- and time-management.

Continuing Education and Training Association of British Columbia (CETABC) is comprised of professionals from colleges and regional universities throughout BC who are the voice for continuing education and contract training in BC.

Canadian Association for University Continuing Education (CAUCE) is a professional association of deans, directors, senior administrative personnel and practitioners whose professional careers are in university continuing education in Canada. I hold the executive position as Recording Secretary, 2015 – present.

The Chair Academy is dedicated to worldwide exemplary leadership development for college and university leaders.

The Learning Resources Network (LERN) is the world’s largest association in continuing education and lifelong learning, offering information and consulting expertise to providers of continuing education and customized training
