Floral Design Certificate Program

This certificate program will offer you in-depth, comprehensive training that is designed to prepare you for direct employment in the floral industry. Along with a significant theory component, the program is practical and current in terms of course content and relevancy to the field. Emphasis is on mastering the correct mechanics and basic shapes of floral design using fresh, treated, and dried floral products. You will also learn some advanced techniques.

The program consists of six modules:

• Floral Design Basics I
• Floral Design Basics II
• Christmas Arrangements
• Special Occasion/Silk and Dried Flowers
• Sympathy and Church Flowers
• Wedding Flowers

Each of the six modules are 10 sessions- two evening sessions per week for five weeks. Floral Design 1, Floral Design 2, and Floral Design Christmas are usually offered from September to December. Special Occasion, Sympathy and Church, and Weddings are offered between February and June. You will need to purchase two textbooks but all materials costs are included in the module cost. There is no application for this program. You just call 1.888.823.8734 and register in the module you want, however you must have Floral Design Basics 1 (or extensive floral design experience) if you wish to take any of the other modules.

Floral Design — Weddings

Prerequisite: Floral Design Basics I

Learn fundamental skills to produce wedding bouquets and arrangements. Topics include marketing, including sales and
advertising, as well as plant identification and designs for all around, contemporary, and hand-tied bouquets, hair flowers,
corsages, and church arrangements. Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.

Floral Design Basics I

Develop a fundamental knowledge of flower arranging and get to know common plant names. Learn about floral tools and supplies, the care and handling of flowers, preparation and planning, and plant identification and design. Bring scissors, wire cutters, and a paring knife to the first class to make your own arrangements to take home. Flowers and supplies are included in the fee.

Floral Design Basics II

Prerequisite: Floral Design Basics I
Acquire the skills needed to work independently on basic flower arrangements. Learn about sales, pricing, plant identification, and advanced design work. Make your own floral arrangements too. Flowers and supplies are included in the course fee.

Floral Design Christmas

Prerequisite: Floral Design Basics I
Try your hand at a variety of Christmas designs. Learn about Christmas-related product information, cone identification, a Christmas tree, and seasonal designs (table centre piece with candles, Christmas wreaths, door hangings, and one-sided arrangements). Find out about fertilizers and pesticides for house plants. Flowers and supplies are included in the course fee.
