Maple taught her first course at Fraser Valley College in April 1991, and became a fulltime faculty member at the University College of the Fraser Valley in September 1992. She was instrumental in bringing the CYC degree program to UCFV, hired to teach in the upper division of that program. She has since participated in many research, projects, and programs. She is currently engaged in her third stint as Department Head for the newly named Child, Youth & Family Studies department.
Maple has worked in the field of CYC in many capacities. She has done suicide prevention, and crisis management front line work, program development, along with being the administrator and lead counsellor for an inner city, urban youth recreation program. She continues her connections to user groups by participating often in community development in her home city.
Maple has a BA in Biological Sciences from California State University at Hayward; an MS in Educational Psychology from the same institution, including one year of co-op studies in educational research at Stanford University. Her post-graduate projects there included Science Attainment in Primary Students, and First graders' cognitive representation of number and understanding of place value.Her thesis was entitled Family Configuration, Intelligence, and Success: Are They Related? She also attained a California State Counselor’s Certification, College Instructor’s Certificate, and a K-12 Teacher’s Certification. Her doctoral work was at William Howard Taft University, and with intelligence as her area of expertise, she completed her dissertation in 2003 studying the confluence of Multiple Intelligences and grade three students math understanding in Enhancing Primary Math Success Through Multiple Intelligences Portfolio Assessment. Other areas of specialization are Forgiveness, Play, and Emergency Preparedness. She has increased her skill set with training in Enneagram Theory, Narrative Therapy and Play Therapy.
Maple is married and has 3 grown children living in 3 different countries, and 2 amazing teenaged grandchildren. She is passionate about her family, football, and footwear.
