Domestic students

Check that you meet the entrance requirements

You can become an ESL student if:

  • English is not your primary language; AND
  • you have completed Grade 12 or equivalent OR you are 19 years of age or older before the first day of classes.

Apply and pay the $45 application fee

ESL classes begin each January, September, and May. Applications are accepted anytime throughout the year.

Apply online or submit a UFV application form in person at the Office of the Registrar on any UFV campus. There is a $45 application fee.

If you need help with the application form, the ESL department can assist you.

Take an English language assessment

Students who apply to ESL programs need to take an assessment to measure English language skills before registering for classes. Completing the assessment will help place you in courses that meet your skill level.

The assessment is free and takes about two hours to complete.

Call or visit the ESL department to arrange a time to do the assessment.

Register for classes

After you complete the application and assessment process, you will be assigned a registration time. Pick up a timetable from the ESL office.
