Indian Residential School Day of Learning

On Wed Sept 18, UFV is holding the Indian Residential School Day of Learning. UFV's Seante approved the transformation of classes for this day. We look forward to UFV students - and the UFV community as a whole - participating in educational events and learning opportunities regarding rsidential schools and reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
Schedule of Events at UFV
Events will be scheduled throughout the day at the Chilliwack campus at Canada Education Park (CEP), Abbotsford campus, Mission campus, and Hope centre. The schedule of events will vary from campus to campus.  The length of events may vary and only the start times are noted below.
Opening ceremony 8:30 am at CEP Gathering Place
Guest Speakers — Abbotsford campus (streamed at all other locations)
  • 10 am Jean Barman, Schooled for Inequality
  • 2 pm Dallas Yellowfly
Concurrent Events
  • 1000 Years of History workshop (start times at 9 am and 1 pm)
  • Discussion groups, films, readings, and presentations (start times will vary throughout the day and into the evening)
  •  Ongoing/drop-in events (open from 8 am – 8 pm)
  •  Wall of Words — write notes/questions about events you attended
  • Coqualeetza Displays
  • Artistic Expression area
  • Displays at the UFV Libraries in Abbotsford and Chilliwack
  • Slideshow of historical and contemporary photographs
Celebration ceremony 4 pm (at Abbotsford campus; streamed at CEP)
