The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) is UFV’s most customizable undergraduate degree program.

In the Bachelor of General Studies program, you can tailor your course selection and integrate professional and applied skills training to meet your needs and goals. You can also use transfer credits, cooperative education experiences, and courses from many different fields within your degree.

There is no ‘typical’ Bachelor of General Studies student. Consider the Bachelor of General Studies if you are:

  • Wishing to self-design your program of study around your interests and career goals;
  • Wanting to customize your program by focusing in an area of study for which UFV does not currently offer a major or minor;
  • Looking to combine minors and/or certificates;
  • Wishing to take courses in a diversity of fields, especially after the first year;
  • Transferring to UFV;
  • Wishing to complete most or all of your courses online;
  • Some combination of the above.

The BGS credential is widely recognized by employers and graduate schools. An academic advisor with specialized program knowledge will work with you to identify pathways to completing your degree goals.

Please note that the Bachelor of General Studies has undergone extensive revision, and new degree structure and requirements take effect in Fall 2017. View program information for the revised Bachelor of General Studies.

The UFV General Studies program is a stepping stone into many different careers, depending on the way in which you customize your program of study.

Common fields that many General Studies graduates pursue include: elementary education, government and administrative support, community programming and outreach, aviation (for students with a Thematic Option in Aviation), and business.
