Awards and Scholarships

 

AWARDS 

GATE confers three awards annually to its students, variably based on a combination of overall achievement, GPA, departmental service, and scholastic contribution to both physical and human geography.

CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF GEOGRAPHERS' ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Annual award of $100 and one year CAG membership
  • Awarded to the graduating student with the highest overall Geography GPA. 

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF GEOGRAPHERS ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Annual award of $100
  • Awarded to the student with the best combination of high GPA and commitment to departmental service.

DOUG NICOL ANNUAL GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP

  • Annual award of $250
  • Awarded to the student that best demonstrates strong achievement and interest in human and physical geography, is involved in school activities, and maintains a high GPA.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS (administered Financial Aid)

Doug Nicol Memorial Endowment Scholarship in Geography

  •  Annual award of $500
  • Awarded to the student that best demonstrates strong achievement and interest in human and physical geography.

 

UNIVERSITY AWARDS & COMPETITIONS

Geography students may also be recommended for university-wide awards, or may they take part in university-wide student competitions, including Undergraduate Research Day.

Undergraduate Research Excellence Award

  • Annual award, given by the university with faculty and departmental recommendation, up to $1000
  • Awarded to student who demonstrates an excellent, original research contribution to their field.
