4. Can I complete other Business courses as part of my BIS degree?
Yes! Within the BIS, you also have the option of completing a Minor in Business along with the Concentration in Applied Management.
5. How do I know if this program is a good fit for me?
If you are wanting to complete your degree to continue or advance within your organization, then the BIS with the Concentration in Applied Management provides a relevant, flexible pathway for doing so. In the BIS, you can also complete courses outside of Management and Business, in subjects ranging from Adult Education to Visual Arts.
6. I have a lot of experience in management already. Can I receive academic credit for this?
Possibly! Using the PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) process, students can present evidence of having met the learning outcomes of individual courses through their on-the-job learning and experience. Please book an appointment with an Academic Advisor to discuss whether PLAR is a good option for you.
7. I currently work in a management position for McDonald’s Canada. Is this program open to me?
Yes! And most management training delivered through McDonald’s Canada is also eligible for transfer credit. Please contact igs@ufv.ca for more information.
8. I am not currently employed in a management position, but I have been previously in another country. Can I still apply?
Yes! We encourage applicants with international experience to apply.
9. I am an international student studying at UFV. Can I apply to the BIS and Concentration?
Yes! International students can apply to the BIS. If you do not have relevant experience, but have completed BUS 100 and BUS 203, you can still apply to the concentration.
10. I previously completed courses at college or university. Can I use these towards my program?
In most cases, yes! When applying to the BIS program, you will be asked to provide information on schools you have attended previously, and to arrange for your transcripts to be sent from those schools to UFV. At that time, the courses will be evaluated by the UFV Articulation team.
11. Can I apply to the BIS and the Concentration in Applied Management at the same time?
Yes, although we cannot guarantee a spot in the Concentration in Applied Management until you have been accepted into the BIS program. You may be asked to start the Concentration in a subsequent semester.
The processes to applying to the BIS and the Concentration in Applied Management are different:
- Your application to the BIS will be reviewed by the UFV Admissions team. Applications to the BIS are accepted year-round. Your application will take several weeks for processing and review, so please consider applying early.
- Your application to the Concentration in Applied Management is separate. Please submit your application materials (resumé and Expression of Interest Form , available on the IGS site) to igs@ufv.ca where it will be reviewed by the Integrated and General Studies program and the School of Business.
12. What happens if I apply to the BIS but do not want to start the Concentration in Applied Management right away?
Not a problem! Not everyone wishing to take the Concentration in Applied Management will meet the entrance requirements at time of applying to the BIS. Starting the degree program first provides you time to build your academic experience, and to meet with an Academic Advisor who can assist with your course planning and questions about using PLAR (see above).
13. Who do I contact if I have any questions about the Concentration in Applied Management?
