Are you curious about the future job market? Do you want to understand which jobs will provide security in the coming years?
Dr. Amandeep Sandhu will address the now rising practice of outsourcing white collar jobs globally and frame them within the rapidly changing 21st century global capitalism. He will discuss how the jobs and careers of people in advanced and emerging economies are impacted by this trend.
This is a free event open to the public. There will be an opportunity to network and meet Dr. Sandhu. Refreshments will be served.
Dr. Sandhu is UFV's BC Regional Innovation Chair in Canada-India Business & Economic Development and a faculty member in the UFV School of Business. The Research Chair is housed in the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies at UFV. Read more

UFV is proud to showcase and celebrate our undergraduate researchers
What a great opportunity for our students to shine! The Research Office is delighted to host this annual event to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to present their research in a poster presentation. In addition to showcasing the hard work of students spanning a cross-section of studies, participants also compete for scholarship awards between $150 -200.
Engagement in research and events such as this can help students obtain scholarships, awards, and graduate school positions.
To participate in the poster presentation, students must:
- Conduct research under the supervision of a UFV faculty member
- Complete the attached application form
- Send the completed application form to firstname.lastname@example.org by Thurs Mar 27
The UFV Research Office will cover the cost of posters printed in Educational Technology Services (ETS), located in G Building. Poster guidelines are on the ETS website at ufv.ca/ets/student-help-and-support/poster-guidelines. Faculty volunteers are available to help students with the content and layout of their posters, so please ask! Thurs Apr 3 is the deadline for submitting files to ETS.

Undergraduate Research Excellence (URE) Awards
Each spring, UFV students are nominated by faculty for exceptional research work, either as part of the UFV work study program, as research assistants, or for an outstanding project as part of a course. Award recipients are acknowledged at an evening dinner and awards ceremony.

Publishing Your Article - Research Services workshop
On October 23, the Research Office hosted a workshop for more than 20 UFV faculty and students interested in publishing their work.
A panel of faculty shared their experiences, ideas, and advice, and the UFV library distributed valuable information on evaluating publishers.

Sol Sun is UFV's Top Undergraduate Student
Sol Sun was a busy man at UFV’s recent convocation ceremonies.
He was the student speaker for the College of Arts ceremony, the dean’s medalist for the Faculty of Social Sciences within the College of Arts, and the Governor General’s silver medalist, an honour bestowed upon the graduate from a four-year degree program with the highest grade point average (GPA) at the university.
Sun scored a perfect 4.33 GPA on last 30 credits (an A+ average), and earned a cumulative CGPA of 4.24 over the course of his Bachelor of Arts degree in honours psychology. Read more
NSERC Common CV Template Now Available
In preparation for the launch of the Research Portal in early May 2013, NSERC is gradually phasing in the new Canadian Common CV (CCV) to replace the Personal Data Form (Form 100), starting with:
• The Notification of Intent for Discovery Grants (Individual and Team);
• The full application for Discovery Grants; and
• All the program elements for the Subatomic Physics Grants suite.
The NSERC CCV template is now available and applies only to these programs for the time being. Instructions for completing the NSERC CCV are also on-line.
Other NSERC Programs
• Other funding opportunities will continue to use the current On-line System and Form 100 until they are migrated to the Research Portal.
• Applicants will be notified in advance of the dates when others will migrate; all NSERC funding opportunities are expected to be integrated by late 2015.
• In the meantime, applicants to multiple NSERC programs will need to maintain and update both their Form 100 and NSERC CCV given the gradual implementation.

Update on NSERC's Research Portal and the Canadian Common CV
NSERC will launch its Research Portal and begin using the Canadian Common CV (CCV) in spring 2013. The Research Portal will be used to manage application and peer review processes, acceptance of awards, notification of results and reporting.
The transition to the Research Portal and the CCV will be phased in gradually (i.e., program by program) starting with the Notification of Intent for Discovery Grants (Individual and Team) and all the program elements for the Subatomic Physics Grants suite, followed by Collaborative Research and Development Grants. Details and dates will be communicated as we get closer to launching the Research Portal.
The NSERC CCV will be available in spring 2013. We strongly encourage the research community to start entering their data once the template is available as it can be time consuming to populate the fields the first time. Once data is entered, only updating is required, and it can be re-used for future applications to NSERC and/or other participating organizations. For these reasons, the CCV will lighten the load on the research community in the long run. IPS & IIS Consent to Disclosure of Personal Information
Canada’s three federal granting agencies—Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)—are now requiring that any applicant, co-applicant and College and Community Innovation Program participant on grant or scholarship applications consent to have some of their personal information disclosed in cases of serious breach of agency policy.
Therefore, a signed Consent to Disclosure of Personal Information form is now a requirement of all new IPS/IIS applications submitted to NSERC. A link to the form can be found in the overview section on the IPS program page on our website.
