Devised Theatre Showcase

Devised Theatre Showcase

No Strings Attached

The University of the Fraser Valley School of Creative Arts with UFV Theatre is wrapping up the 2020-2021 Season of Theatre with the Devised Theatre ShowcaseNo Strings AttachedThe Devised Theatre Showcase is the final project presented by UFV Theatre’s fourth year Devised Theatre class, and is a chance for students to apply everything they have learned in the course.

No Strings Attached is a devised theatre project created by six UFV Theatre student devisers. The group has exercised contemporary devising methods in the Devised Theatre class to develop this project collaboratively as an evening talk show, with a series of episodes and segments, examining creativity from real interviews. Two sock puppet hosts bring in live acting members from their own homes for interviews, with talk show games focused on creativity. The devisers will bring wit and comedy, and ask audience members to live free and creative with no strings attached, like sock puppets.

UFV students include Isabella Russell, Stefan Boekhorst, Keegan Zaporozan, Mattea Li, Bethan Griffiths and Trevor Marsh, led by UFV faculty member Parjad Sharifi.

Performances: April 8 & 9 at 7:00 pm & April 10 at 4:00 pm, 2021

Post Performance Talkbacks will occur after every show, which promise to enhance audience members’ understanding of the performance.

Performances will be held live via zoom and are free of charge.

Meet Our Cast and Crew

UFV students include Isabella Russell, Stefan Boekhorst, Keegan Zaporozan, Mattea Li, Bethan Griffiths and Trevor Marsh, led by UFV faculty member Parjad Sharifi.

Keegan Zaporozan's roles in “No Strings Attached” include writer, director, and dramaturge. He has enjoyed the experience of organically creating a show with other passionate theatre folk. He is currently Studying for a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a theatre major, as well as working part time, he has most recently been involved in UFV’s virtual production of “Antigone” as Creon and in the student production of “Dog See’s God” playing the role of Matt. Keegan wishes to pursue professional acting after university, but will be making his first professional debut in Victoria this summer in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat” with the National Stage Co. of Canada.

Stefan Boekhorst has been involved in Theatre at UFV for over 5 years. His recent experience in the department has been the lead role in the student run show “Dog Sees God” directed by Luke Stevens. Currently, Stefan is working with his other classmates in the second devising theatre program on their show “No Strings Attached”. His roles in the production include Sound Design and Stage Management. He is excited to be apart of his first public online performance and hopes this will be a great experience for his future theatre productions.

Bethan Griffiths is a fourth year student completing a BFA with extended minors in theatre and visual arts. Her roles in the production No Strings Attached include helping to write the script for The Cooking Show episode and creating puppet designs. Although mainly enthusiastic about visual arts, Bethan has had some previous experience with theatre but not online; using zoom has been peculiar, yet enlightening, due to the inventiveness she and her classmates have discovered that they can achieve in an online format.

Mattea Li is completing her Bachelor of Arts, and this will be her fourth year at the University of Fraser Valley. She has enjoyed and learned so much in the productions that she has participated in at UFV, and this term she will be in “No Strings Attached” as the actress, puppeteer, and assistant in sound design.  She is also currently residing in Macau where she is an intern for the theatre department in a high school. She is learning to balance her online schooling and her day job with the time zone difference. Everything has been going smoothly thanks to the understanding and supportive professors in UFV.

Russell, Isabella - I am one of the divisors and puppet designers for this show, and I am also the puppeteer Maurice. I am currently attending school, and I have little experience in theatre previously, other than working in props for another show done at UFV.
