Made possible by a generous endowment from Gladys and Harvey Kipp, the Gladys and Harvey Kipp Research Lab first opened in 2009. The Kipps were long-time residents of Chilliwack, where they worked as manager and postmaster for Canada Post for many decades. Their commitment to the community and philanthropic spirit continued after they retired, and included their final gift to UFV in 2009, which helped found UFV’s Centre for Social Research.
A group of faculty members envisioned the lab space. In particular, Kevin Busswood and Elizabeth Dennis conceptualized a dedicated research space and tools to promote social research at UFV for the benefit of the wider community.
In Chilliwack, the Kipp Research Lab is located on the Canada Education Park campus in A1365, and has two shared office spaces (A1365a & b). The main lab space houses six computers equipped with research software including SPSS, NVivo, SAS, Minitab, and Maple. Each office space houses a computer. Projector, screen, and printer are available in the main lab space. The Kipp Lab shares this space with CERA, the Centre for Education and Research on Aging.
