Working in Residence Life or Housing Operations will help prepare you for your professional career and will equip you with skills needed for to be successful in the workplace. Resident and Front Desk Assistants have the opportunity to become leaders, to gain experience doing many different things, and to have fun while setting yourself up for career success.
Typically, recruitment for student employment and volunteer opportunities starts in January of each year. However, from time to time, we do look for student leaders throughout the year.

Resident Assistants (RAs)
RAs are student leaders in the Baker House community. Each floor has two in-house RAs who are responsible for developing a space where all residents feel comfortable and safe. RAs are available for support, maintenance concerns, lockouts, and are trained to deal with any emergencies and conflicts that arise. RAs work closely with student associations and create various services and programs for residents. RAs are also responsible for discipline in the community and making sure that residents respect their community and each other. This position requires skills in leadership, programming, administration, and engagement.
Front Desk Assistants (FDAs)
FDAs are student leaders who assist residents with operational issues. Under the Housing Operations department, FDAs help maintain Baker House's facilities and provide administrative support to professional staff. Customer service is an essential part of this position and prospective FDA applicants can expect a high level of interaction with residents. This position requires good interpersonal skills as well as a high level of organization.
Assistant Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC)
The ARLC is a peer educator who provides learning and development to student staff and residents through a variety of avenues and opportunities. This person works primarily with the RA staff team and provides after-hours on-campus support. This position is designed for a graduate student or a student in the 4th year of their program.
Work Study Postions
Each year, Baker House has work study postions that are focussed on programming activities and events to help build community. Work study positions are posted on Career Link in early September and January.
