Biosafety committee

The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is responsible to oversee the UFV Biosafety Program and Procedures, provide policy direction, and recommend changes to the administration of the program.

Members of the IBC are appointed by senior management, and jointly with the Institutional Biosafety Officer (IBO), act in an advisory role reporting to the Biosafety Licence holder on matters pertaining to biosafety and biosecurity.

Regulatory references

Activities in involving human and animal pathogens and toxins are regulated by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in accordance with:

  • The Human Pathogens and Toxins Act (HPTA);
  • The Human Pathogens and Toxins Regulations (HPTR);
  • The Health of Animals Act (HAA);
  • The Health of Animals Regulations (HAR).

How to access UFV biosafety documents

On a Windows PC:

  • Make sure your computer is connected to the UFV network.
  • Open File Explorer and open This PC.
  • Open the employee drive.
  • Open the folder marked public.
  • You should now see the Biosafety folder.
