Environmental Microbiology (Biology 326)

As the earth's human population has increased, natural systems have declined, and changes
in the balance of natural cycles have had a negative impact on both humans and other living
organisms.  Environmental sustainability is now a major environmental focus as concerns over
air, water, and soil pollution have increased.  Bacteria have survived very successfully on earth
for more than 4 billion years, and they have a lot to teach us.  Biology 326, Environmental
Microbiology, places an emphasis on the use of bacteria in pollution control, bioremediation,
agriculture, and nutrient cycling, as well as studying the effect that global changes is having
on microbial infectious disease.
