  • Field trips enhance classroom learning
  • Enter in grade 11 to complete both high school and the certificate at the same time
  • As part of the Abbotsford School district's Career Program, there are no tuition fees for this certificate.

Jointly offered by UFV and the Abbotsford School District #34, the Health and Human Services (HHS) certificate program is especially designed for grade 11 students who want to gain knowledge and understanding of the requirements, challenges, and opportunities available in the health and human services sector.

The certificate allows you to explore UFV programs in Health and Human Services (HHS) — a large and growing field that includes disciplines such as:

  • Nursing
  • Social work
  • Dental hygiene
  • Kinesiology
  • Early childhood education
  • Child and youth care

UFV's two-year HHS  program lets you complete secondary school, while starting university-level courses early. What's more: there are no tuition fees for the program, so you get a year of university credit at no extra cost, as long as you do not need to repeat a course.

You  build a strong foundation in health sciences by taking introductory courses from across disciplines, such as Introductory Sociology, Introductory Psychology, Academic Writing, Contemporary Health Issues, Introduction to Reading, Writing and Study Skills, and Introduction to Computers and Digital Technologies.

Upon completion of the certificate, you can ladder up into a degree program at UFV, which you can enter at the second-year level. Or you may choose to seek entry-level employment in the health and human services field.

Health and Human Services is a large and growing field. Programs are offered in this field at UFV and elsewhere in disciplines such as nursing, social work, dental hygiene, kinesiology, early childhood education, and child and youth care.

The Health and Human Services program is well-suited if you intend to pursue further study in one of the fields you will explore through various courses at UFV. After earning your certificate, choose to transfer easily into a Social Work or Health Sciences program at UFV.

Health and Human Services students enter at the Grade 11 level and complete both high school and a one-year UFV Health and Human Services certificate over two and a half years. See Abbotsford School District Career Programs for high school admissions requirements.
