Student Association of Social Work (SWSA)

The Student Association of Social Work (SWSA) is a student organization that strives to support, represent, and advocate for students in the Bachelor of Social Work degree and Diploma of Social Services program. SWSA provides a forum for students to voice concerns, make suggestions, and socialize with peers.

SWSA acts as an important communication link with the School and faculty and ensures that students’ voices are represented on the Social Work Advisory Council, faculty selection advisory committees, and curriculum evaluation committees.

SWSA has also taken a major role in planning events to enrich the UFV faculty and student body as well as local and global communities. For example, SWSA members, as part of an interdisciplinary committee, actively planned and orchestrated an international social work conference at UFV: Reaching Out Together: Connections Through Social Work 2015. Every social work student is encouraged to be involved in the Association in order to connect with their cohort and community.

The Association meets once to twice a month in addition to planning facilitating monthly events. Officers are elected in December and fundraising activities are ongoing. We have established a group e-mail listserv to enable students to be in contact with one another as well as have access to current program information.
