Improve student writing with Turnitin

Turnitin’s Originality Check feature help students and instructors detect plagiarism by comparing student papers to the current and archived web, other student work, millions of journal articles and e-books. As a learning tool, Turnitin helps students see and understand the importance of proper citation and referencing in their academic work. By allowing them to see the originality report prior to the final submission, students can ensure their papers are not plagiarized.

Faculty members can set up a Turnitin assignment where students can submit papers several times up to the assignment deadline. Once the deadline arrives, the assignment currently submitted is the final version.

Proper set up of the assignment is required as paper titles, bibliographies, and common phrases can be highlighted as plagiarized text. This workshop will provide you with an overview of Turnitin and get you access to UFV’s license.

The Teaching and Learning Centre has been an incredible source of support. From my first encounters with getting help to create online videos for blended and online learning to my most recent requests for increasing whiteboard space around classrooms to foster collaboration, the TLC has always been welcoming and supportive of my ideas. I have always felt comfortable asking whether something is possible or not, and more often than not, the TLC team offers me a variety of solutions and options.
