FSR Electrical Code

Course length

50 hours


Thoroughly review the main sections of the 2018 Canadian Electrical Code, with an emphasis on B.C. amendments and bulletins of the Safety Standards Act, and the Safety Standards General Regulation. The course is designed for electricians and apprentices planning to upgrade their knowledge of the code or wanting to write the Field Safety Representatives exams. This course is recognized by the Technical Safety BC.

This course satisfies the training requirement for new applicants for FSR certification.

Purchase the following books for the first day of class: 

  • Electrical Code Book (available from the UFV Bookstore) 
  • Electrical Safety Regulations, Safety Standards Act, and Safety Standards Act General Regulation (free download available from the Safety Authority website or purchase from Crown Publications at 1–800–663–6105 or

Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Level 1


Electrical Level 2 or higher, or Electrical Engineer or equivalent field work on PLC or SCADA systems. Contact to verify equivalency.

You can save time and money by using a PLC to control the operation of motors, pumps, light fixtures, timers, assembly lines, and more. Discover the ease of wiring, programming on the Schneider Zelio family of smart relays. Learn about physical wiring, programming, and testing. Write programs in two different styles: Function Block and Ladder Logic. Your 30 hours of hands-on training take place in UFV's automation lab. Bring a personal laptop with Windows XP or higher to each class. A USB with the Schneider Zelio program is provided. Ensure that you have at least one USB 2.0 port and one Ethernet port on your laptop. Learn more at
