Teaching Philosophy

Be it conscious or unconscious, adult learning is an intrinsic condition; we are meaning-making machines. As a teacher, therefore, my role is one of guide more than task master. Our feelings of self-worth, and ability to positively contribute to society, require time, space and the right conditions in order to reflect upon and synthesize new information into adult life. The amount and quality of self-discipline, empathy and social action of an adult learner is concomitant with that of the support and external validation provided by teachers for students’ self-reflection and autonomous action.

  • Fundamental, Intermediate, and Advanced English
  • Fundamental Maths
  • Fundamental and Intermediate Computers

Research Interests

  • Intergenerational learning (Family Literacy)
  • Embedding literacy supports and services into adult correctional centres

Upgrading through UFV was absolutely the right decision for me. I could get my foot in the door at a wonderful university, and despite having not yet completed high school, I feel like a real university student! The upgrading courses are fun and have a relaxed environment — allowing you to thrive and flourish academically.
