Training in Attitudes, Skills, and Knowledge for the Workplace (TASK)


English language proficiency requirements

Students registering in post-secondary level courses (numbered 100 to 499) will be required to meet the English language entrance proficiency requirements. Students in ELS or the University Foundations programs can register in those courses identified in the University Foundations program with lower levels of language proficiency.

Please note that not all courses are offered every semester.

TASK 051

Personal and Workplace Essentials

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Training in Attitude, Skills, and Knowledge for the Workplace (TASK) program.

Corequisite(s): TASK 052 and TASK 053.

Developed for students with disabilities, this course covers personal awareness, a variety of effective communication strategies, assertiveness skills, and goal setting for the workplace.

Education and Employment Exploration

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Training in Attitude, Skills, and Knowledge for the Workplace (TASK) program.

Corequisite(s): TASK 051 and TASK 053.

Students will improve their knowledge of computer basics, write cover letters and resumes, develop interview skills, and develop short-term and long-term education and career plans.

Safety and Industry Certificates

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Training in Attitude, Skills, and Knowledge for the Workplace (TASK) program.

Corequisite(s): TASK 051 and TASK 052.

This course covers safe work principles, health and wellness, and advocacy. Students will earn industry certifications such as First Aid, WHMIS, FoodSafe, and SuperHost.

Work Experience I

Prerequisite(s): TASK 051, TASK 052, TASK 053, and instructor’s permission.

Corequisite(s): TASK 055 and TASK 056.

Students will prepare for and participate in a community-based work experience to demonstrate their basic employability skills.

Work Experience II

Prerequisite(s): TASK 051, TASK 052, TASK 053, and instructor’s permission.

Corequisite(s): TASK 054 and TASK 056.

Students will prepare for, and participate in community-based work experiences, building on basic employability skills learned in TASK 054, by demonstrating enhanced employability skills.

Personal and Career Portfolio

Prerequisite(s): TASK 051, TASK 052, TASK 053, and instructor’s permission.

Corequisite(s): TASK 054, TASK 055

Students will develop a personal, career-related portfolio that identifies and shows evidence of workplace essential skills attained through life experience and/or training and education.
