Library Technician Post-diploma certificate

The Library Technician Post-diploma certificate is a part-time program designed for library technicians seeking continuing education opportunities that directly address issues relating to their profession. Offered jointly with the Library and Information Technology and Continuing Education departments, this program is specifically designed to meet the needs of working professionals.

Entrance requirements

  1. Completion of UFV's two-year Library and Information Technology diploma, or a two-year library technician diploma program from a recognized institution that is compliant with the Canadian Library Association Guidelines for the Education of Library Technicians.
  2. Applicants must meet the Degree/diploma level English language proficiency requirement. For details on how this requirement may be met, see the English language proficiency requirement section of the calendar.

When to apply

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year. Qualified applicants are considered for the next intake in which there is space. See Continuous application process for more information.

How to apply

  1. Apply online at ufv.ca/admissions/apply.

    Additional documents required for a complete application:

    • UFV application form.
    • Official transcript showing evidence of graduation from a two-year library technician program. To be considered official, transcripts must be sent directly to UFV from the originating institution; see the Transfer Credit section for details.
  2. Once these documents have been received by the Office of the Registrar, an application date will be recorded and the application will be forwarded to the Library and Information Technology program.

Basis for admission decision

Applicants who meet the entrance requirements will be admitted in order of their application date. This date is set when an application, all required documentation, and the application fee have been submitted.

Courses will normally be delivered online over eight weeks.

Undergraduate continuance

Students enrolled in undergraduate courses (courses numbered 100 or higher) must maintain an undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 to remain enrolled in Good Academic Standing at UFV. Students in Good Academic Standing will have no registration limits placed on them. Failure to meet the minimum CGPA requirement will result in restrictions on registration and may eventually lead to academic suspension from undergraduate studies at UFV. Students on Academic Warning or Academic Probation are limited to registering in 10 credits. For further details, see the Academic standing and undergraduate continuance section of the academic calendar. Academic standing is governed by UFV's Undergraduate Continuance policy (92).

To continue in the Library and Information Technology Post-diploma program, students must also maintain a minimum semester GPA of 2.00 (C average) in addition to a CGPA of 2.00. Students whose cumulative and/or semester GPA falls below 2.00 during their program are subject to program warning and/or removal from the program.

Residency

Students must complete at least three of the five courses required in the certificate at UFV.

Graduation requirements

To be eligible to graduate, students must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00 in the courses required for the certificate.
