TESL as a field of practice.

Students will apply key principles of applied linguistics to second language education (SLE) with a focus on grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, pronunciation, and pragmatics. Students will be exposed to a range of relevant teaching strategies.

Students will develop teaching methods and learn the concepts and skills a teacher requires to design sequenced
lesson plans with materials for effective second language instruction.

Students will design, align, and use curriculum, materials, assessments, and language standards to foster learning in second language education. Students develop expertise in the use of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CBL) in curriculum and assessment.

This practicum component of the TESL certificate enables students to apply their studies of theory and methodology
of second language teaching and learning in an approved ESL instructional setting.
