Current Agricultural Practices Essentials certificate

This 18-credit, 6-course, post-credential certificate will help meet the professional development needs of agriculturists who have either been away from agriculture for a while or who are recent Canadians with prior agriculture experience. This program will update the student's knowledge of Canadian agriculture and offer a valuable experience (Practicum I) in a modern agriculture business.

Entrance requirements

  1. B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, or minimum 19 years of age before first day of class.
  2. Applicants must meet the Entry-level English language proficiency requirement. For details on how this requirement may be met, see the English language proficiency requirement section of the calendar.
  3. A one-year certificate, or a diploma or degree in Agriculture or Horticulture from a recognized post-secondary institution. Some courses have prerequisites. Prospective students are encouraged to meet with the Agriculture Technology department before commencing the program.

When to apply

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year. Qualified applicants are considered for the next intake in which there is space. See Continuous application process for more information.

Program outline

Some courses have prerequisites. Prospective students are advised to meet with the Agriculture Technology department before commencing the program. To be eligible for AGRI 192, students must have full-time status, and at least 9 UFV Agriculture Technology credits and attend a practicum orientation session.

Undergraduate continuance

Students enrolled in undergraduate courses (courses numbered 100 or above) must maintain an undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 to remain enrolled in Good Academic Standing at UFV. Students in Good Academic Standing will have no registration limits placed on them. Failure to meet the minimum CGPA requirement will result in restrictions on registration and may eventually lead to academic suspension from undergraduate studies at UFV. Students on Academic Warning or Academic Probation are limited to registering in 10 credits. For further details, see the Academic standing and undergraduate continuance section of the academic calendar. Academic standing is governed by UFV’s Undergraduate Continuance policy (92).

Residency

Students must complete at least 50% of credits required in the certificate at UFV.

Graduation requirements

A minimum GPA of 2.0 in all courses is required in the program.
