Conflict in the Dental Workplace Caused by Personality and Generational Differences

Prerequisite(s): None.

Corequisite(s): None.

Pre- or corequisite(s): None.

We are experiencing a changing economy, shifting workplace demographics and a shortage of real talent and skilled staff in the dental office. One of the reasons for this is generational differences. Researchers tell us that for the first time in history we have four generations working side by side in today’s workplace. Each generation walks into the workplace with different values, work ethics, and ideas as to how the dental office should operate. They rarely interact with each other and often do not recognize each other’s skills or strengths. When there is misunderstanding and lack of appreciation, conflict is created, production is reduced, staff turnover increases, and team morale decreases.

In this interactive workshop you will learn:
•    The four personality types and how to value the differences
•    The generational differences: their history, values, and motivation
•    Each generation’s clash points
•    How to communicate effectively with the different personalities and generations
•    What it takes to retain and create job security for each generation

This workshop is a must for everyone in the dental office!

Job Search and Interview Skills

Prerequisite(s): None.

Corequisite(s): None.

Pre- or corequisite(s): None.

Just as dentistry is changing, so is the job search process necessary to find an excellent office. What is needed is a structured plan of action. An integral component of the process is the interview. At one time the interview was all one-sided, a meeting for the prospective dentist to assess your suitability for the position s/he had available. These days in this market, the interview works both ways. The interview also provides an opportunity for you to assess if this is the office for you.

In this workshop you will learn:
•    to develop a plan of action in searching for a job
•    to determine what your expectations are in your next job — and understand what you want
•    how to present yourself at the interview
•    the various types of interviews
•    how to answer those difficult questions
•    how to respond with the “PAR” technique
•    how to follow up once the interview is over.

Which is the Best Bruxing Guard?

Prerequisite(s): None.

Corequisite(s): None.

Pre- or corequisite(s): None.

The course will include information on the history of bruxing guards, types and materials available to choose from and a demonstration of how to correctly “take a bite”. Should we make an upper or lower guard? Should we use hard or soft material? Should we consider a NTI (Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibitor) dental guard? Dr. Liem will provide answers to these common questions as well as specific questions that participants may have. Participants will learn: how to ask the proper questions prior to constructing a bruxing guard, how to select the type of bruxing guard, how to monitor if the bruxing guard is “working”, how to avoid any “harm” to the patient, how to take a “bite registration” for a bruxing guard. An exciting approach to personal understanding_x000D_
Ever wondered why do some people - colleagues, parents or students - get "under your skin" more than others? Ever wondered how to deal with others that "just don't seem to get it" when it's so obvious to you?_x000D_
If so, this workshop is for you. The True Colours personality model recognizes that people are unique - that they think differently, have different values, and strive for self-worth in different ways. You will learn about "temperament" colours, meet others that are "just like you" or "very different", and learn different communication styles, ways to improve communication with students, parents and colleagues of different colours, and learning styles and needs of the different "temperament" colours.
