ufv.ca/creative-artsStudents in the Theatre major gain critical and creative skills that prepare them for diverse career paths, including creative sector management and leadership, education, social and community development, and in all areas of the theatre and performance industry.
The first two years of the program emphasize technical, digital, and performance competence and the application of knowledge and skills in hands-on projects. As students progress through the major, they explore how theatre can be used as a tool for community engagement and social change, the intersections of live performance and digital technologies, the integration of practice and theory, project-based leadership, and professional skill development.
Upon completion of the Theatre major, students will be able to:
See the Fees and Other Costs section. Books and additional supplies cost approximately $100–200 per course. THEA 101 includes a materials fee. Additional costs may include theatre tours, workshop fees, art supplies, makeup kits, exercise mats, and active wear suitable for acting classes.

Note 1: Students planning to take upper-level acting courses should review prerequisites for these courses when selecting lower-level Theatre electives.
Note 2: Students may use only six credits of lower-level practicum courses and eight credits of upper-level practicum courses toward meeting the requirements for the Theatre major. Students may use up to three additional lower-level practicum credits to meet BA electives.
Note 3: Most upper-level THEA courses are offered in alternating years.
This extended minor can be applied to any degree program at UFV, provided the degree accepts extended minors. This section specifies the extended minor discipline requirements only. The Theatre extended minor can be combined with another creative practice program only in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Creative practice programs are offered in Creative Writing, Graphic and Digital Design, Theatre, and Visual Arts. Students interested in exploring the inter- and transdisciplinary connections between theatre and another area of creative practice will be well served by this program option and will be well prepared for career pathways and future engagement in creative arts, as artists, administrators, and art educators.
