Advanced Medical Office Assistant certificate

The Advance Medical Office Assistant (AMOA) program equips students with the skills they will need to assist a physician in a greater capacity. This includes theory, advanced administration, staff leadership, patient support, and clinical support skills. This program is perfect for experienced MOAs who are seeking career advancement and an advanced skill set.

UFV also offers a Medical Office Assistant certificate.

Entrance requirements

  1. One of the following:
    • Successful completion at the post-secondary level of a Medical Office Assistant certificate program that includes a practicum and two years of current employment as a Medical Office Assistant; or
    • Three years of medical administrative experience, current employment in a medical office, and a letter of recommendation from their medical office employer.
  2. Applicants must meet the Entry-level English language proficiency requirement. For details on how this requirement may be met, see the English language proficiency requirement section of the calendar.

When to apply

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year. Qualified applicants are considered for the next intake in which there is space. See Continuous application process for more information.

How to apply

  1. Apply online at ufv.ca/admissions/apply.

    Additional documents required for a complete application:

    • Official transcripts (or interim transcripts) from all post-secondary institutions attended (excluding UFV) showing grade/course achievement as per entrance requirements. To be considered official, transcripts must be sent directly to UFV from the originating institution; see the Transfer Credit section for details.
  2. Applicants will be advised of an admission decision and, if accepted, will be provided with registration information. Full tuition is due at the time of registration.

Basis for admission decision

Applicants who meet the entrance requirements will be admitted in order of their application date. This date is set when an application, all required documentation, and the application fee have been submitted.

Program duration

This certificate program is 150 hours, scheduled in part-time and full-time schedules. The program will be offered in a hybrid delivery format over a four month period and includes face-to-face and online study. Face-to-face classes will be scheduled during evening and weekend hours to accommodate working professionals.

Location

The program is located at the Clearbrook Centre in Abbotsford. Courses may be delivered online and face-to-face (classes are scheduled during the evenings and weekends) and in hybrid format.

Program continuance

Students whose GPA fall below 2.00 will be required to withdraw from the program.

Residency

The entire program must be completed at UFV.

Graduation requirements

To be eligible to graduate, students must successfully complete each course with 80% or better.

Maximum length of time to complete program

Students must complete the program requirements within three years.
