Assessing Risk and Understanding Violence in Youth
This course provides an introduction of the field of risk/ threat assessment, intervention, and violence prevention. Gain knowledge for assessing an individual’s potential for violence, with a focus on using multi-disciplinary collaborative practices. A particular emphasis will be placed on prevention strategies and intervention techniques. Various psycho-social and developmental factors that contribute to aggression will be examined, along with an in-depth exploration of individual pathology and family, school, and social dynamics. This course will assist individuals in addressing violence along the continuum from high-end violence, including school shootings, to bullying behaviours, while emphasizing the importance of building policies and practices that create safe school cultures.

We’ve been offering high-quality lifelong education options to people in the Fraser Valley since 1974, and are well known for our high standards and consistent quality. We work with other UFV departments to develop certificates and short courses related to our academic specialities. In addition to the many courses found here, we can provide custom, tailor-made courses for your company on a contract basis – daytime, weekends, or evening. We also welcome any suggestions you may have for new courses.
Refunds
Full refunds, less any administration fee, are available for all UFV Continuing Studies courses, if applied for before the second session of the class. For courses completed in one session or held on one weekend, refunds must be requested at least two working days prior to the day the course starts. Present your UFV receipt(s) at any UFV Admissions and Records office. (Some programs require a deposit, which is non-refundable.)
