Floral Design – Basics I
Prerequisite: Must have good reading, writing and verbal english skills.
This course will provide a fundamental knowledge of flower arranging, and an introduction to Latin and common plant names. Topics include introduction to floral tools and supplies, care and handling of flowers, preparation and planning, plant identification and design. Please bring scissors, wire cutters and a paring knife to the first class. You will make your own floral arrangements to take home. Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.

This course covers the skills necessary to work independently on basic flower arrangements. Topics include sales, pricing, plant identification, and advanced design work. Please bring
scissors, wire cutters and a paring knife to the first class. You will make your own floral arrangements to take home. Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.

Floral Design – Christmas Arrangements — New
Prerequisite: Floral Design Basics II.
This module covers a variety of Christmas designs. Topics include product information (Christmas-related materials), cone identification, decorating a Christmas tree, and designs
(table centerpiece with candles, Christmas wreaths, door hangings, and one-sided arrangements). Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.

Introduction to Equestrian Coaching and InstructionPrerequisite: Equine Canada Learn to Ride Program Rider 4
This is the first of two courses to help you prepare for the Equine Canada Instructor/Coach Evaluation. The EC English Rider 4 (or equivalent) is a prerequisite. Topics include the theory of coaching, discussion and lesson plan development using 20 common teaching subjects, and how to prepare for an Equine Canada exam.

Instructor: Maureen Walters likes to be thought of as a “jack of all trades” riding teacher. She has been involved with many different disciplines. She is an Equine Canada senior jumper judge and an EC basic dressage judge, and has worked as a senior steward at many large horseshows during the past twenty years, including Spruce Meadows, North American Young
Riders Championships, and an FEI competitionin Florida. Maureen is involved with Pony Club, teaching and examining at the national level.
After achieving her EC Coach 2 status in the 1980s, Maureen became active as an examiner for those wishing to become certified coaches, and is now master course conductor for B.C.
She is very involved with the Horse Council of B.C. and acts as VP of Competitions.
Practical Horse Care — New
It is easy to become overwhelmed and confused with many different views on correct horsemanship. Horse ownership does not need to be complicated if one learns correct and classical methods. This short course will cover a variety of topics, such as an introduction to
basic anatomy, feeding and nutrition, routine health care, hoof care, common ailments and common unsoundnesses and how it relates to conformation flaws. There will be a discussion on competitions, equine activities, and clubs and associations. The Saturday class will allow for hands-on application and real-life experience with the horse.

Garden Design Fundamentals
Do you dream of having an attractive and colourful garden to enjoy? Is your own garden falling short of these expectations? Change is not difficult— just follow the basic principles of landscape design. Through creative use of plants and hardscape materials, you can create an easy-care garden you can be proud of. This is a practical design course and includes lectures, slides, hands-on materials, and in-class work time. Some homework is required.

Keeping Your Flock Healthy - The basics of flock health for poultry owners
This course is intended for owners of small flocks who wish to learn more about diseases in poultry, including its spread and prevention. Content will include the recognition of common diseases, methods that can be taken to prevent their entry into the flock, and actions that can be followed if they appear. This course is sponsored by Growing Forward, a cooperative initiative between the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. There is no course fee but enrollment is limited.
