Why earn a BFA?

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is the program of choice for creative individuals who want to explore the possibilities of careers in the fine arts. In this four-year program, you will gain an understanding of how creative practice and academic theory complement each other in today's artistic landscape. A BFA will prepare you to not only produce cultural commodities, but to also understand the complex and critical relationships between creative practice, the creative economy, and contemporary culture.

Why study fine arts at UFV?

UFV is proud to offer the Fraser Valley's first Bachelor of FineArts degree. This fouryear program is dynamic and interdisciplinary, offering a Visual Arts major, as well as minors and extended minors in Art History, Creative Writing, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Media & Communications Studies, and Theatre.

Students are given the tools for various modes of artistic production through a curriculum that is sensitive to the social and political issues that affect today's creative marketplace. Interactive experiences such as gallery and performing arts tours, lectures by visiting artists and industry professionals, and exhibition and performance opportunities enhance classroom and studio education.

The overall design of this program can be fine-tuned to best match the individual needs of each student's educational and career goals as emerging artists, designers, performers, writers, and critics. Fine Arts faculty members at UFV are committed to high standards of achievement for students, and offer teaching enhanced by their own experiences as creative professionals.

Well-designed studios, a dynamic faculty, and a dedicated community network of support make all of our Fine Arts departments a highly encouraging place for studying the creative arts.

How much will it cost?

You can check our online calendar at for up to-date information but a general guideline is that fees for a full-time student who is taking five courses would be just over $2,000 per semester. Keep in mind that there will be additional expenses for textbooks, studio materials, and other supplies you might need.

You should also visit the UFV Financial Aid and Awards office, which facilitates the disbursement each year of about $12 million in federal and provincial student loans, grants, bursaries, scholarships, and awards to UFV students. A helpful budget planning worksheet is available online at .
