Ideas for helping children and youth shared

Over 200 people from throughout the Lower Mainland attended the recent Children and Youth in the Valley conference at UCFV. The one-day conference featured many exciting and practical workshops, including one on how to support children and families experiencing trauma, one on preventing teasing and bullying, and another on how to help youth at risk.

Conference coordinator George Melzer was pleased with how well the event was received by people in the community.

"The commitment we all share in addressing the needs of children and youth in our communities, and improving their lives, will result in a better future for all of us," said Melzer.

"The conference provided an opportunity for that commitment to be discussed. At the end of the day many participants told me they were inspired by the many creative ways we can help educate young children and support youth.

"They also indicated that more professional development is needed in this area."

The conference was presented by Continuing Education and the Early Childhood Education/Child and Youth Care department.
