Complementary/alternative therapies health fair at UCFV

Nursing students at UCFV are once again learning about complementary/alternative therapies and helping to educate the public.

UCFV third-year nursing students will be presenting a Complementary/Alternative Therapies Health Fair on Saturday, November 16, from 8:30–1 pm in the Health Sciences building, Chilliwack campus. Presentations will be given on horticulture therapy, aromatherapy, reflexology, yoga, acupuncture, and chiropractic practices. For more information, contact Lynne Wells at local 2519.

Times are as follows:

9–10 am

10–10:30 am

10:30–11:30 am

11:45–12:45 pm

Participants will have the chance to sample three of the six topics.

It’s important for nurses to be aware of non-mainstream treatments and therapies that their patients may be exploring, according to UCFV nursing instructor Lynne Wells.

“Nurses need to know about the sorts of treatments and activities their patients may be exploring. Some of them, such as healing touch, are actually being used by nurses in hospital settings,” says Wells. “By organizing this fair, the students learn more about a variety of therapies and get a chance to help educate the public, which is another important component of their nursing education.”
