Support your UCFV Cascades on Valentine weekend

Did you know that UCFV's basketball teams are hot, hot, hot?

The women were undefeated and leading the B.C. College league as of Feb 10.

The defending national champion men are hot on the heels of league-leading Douglas.

Your last chance to see the Cascades in action at home this year is the Valentines weekend. Both the men's and women's teams will host a home stand that weekend, taking on University College of the Cariboo on Friday, February 14, and the University of Northern British Columbia on Saturday, February 15.

Bring your date on Valentine's Day or, if you have more romantic plans for that evening, come for the Saturday game. The men's Saturday game will have a lot riding on it: UNBC was leading the league this year until last week when Douglas overtook them, and UCFV is among four teams battling it out for second place and hoping to pop into first. UCFV will be eager to reclaim its spot as the top B.C. college team in what's been termed a rebuilding year for the national champions.

The women's team has been unbeatable so far this year. Can the streak continue?

Acting athletic director Jill Harrison promises a value-added, fun-filled, weekend game package.

"We want to show the UCFV community and the general public a really fun time," she says. "We're planning special halftime events, 50/50 draws, fun for the kids, and some really exciting basketball. It's great to have our home gym right on campus now and we want people who haven't yet checked a Cascades game out to give it a try."

The women's games run at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb 14 and 15, while the men play at 8 p.m. Admission is: $3 for adults, $2 for students, $1 for kids 6 to 12, and free for kids under 6, and is good for both games.
