Start a career adventure at Directions 2003
Launching a career is an adventure, and UCFV wants to help guide you on the journey.
Everyone is invited to come and explore their career options at Directions 2003, UCFV's second annual career and education fair.
Almost 40 employers will be exhibiting at Directions, which runs Thursday, March 6, from 9 am to 8 pm in the Student Activity Centre on UCFV's Abbotsford campus. Admission is free. UCFV departments will also be on hand to talk about their programs.
Envision Financial is the platinum sponsor for Directions 2003, and the Chartered Accountants of B.C. are the gold sponsor. There will also be a grand prize giveaway of a $500 shopping spree from Sevenoaks Shopping Centre.
In keeping with the adventure theme, the keynote speaker at Directions will be Colin Angus, who was part of the first group to raft the entire length of the Amazon, the world's most dangerous river.
He will be presenting twice in the Abbotsford campus lecture theatre (B101) from 12:15 to 1:15 pm & 7 to 8 pm.
The UCFV Alumni Association will once again be sponsoring the 'Alumni Mentoring Event' which will feature alumni speaking to UCFV students, high school students and members of the community in a group setting and one-on-one about what it's like to work in their profession.
UCFV is excited to welcome two VIP Mentors, "weather guys" Marke Driesschen (CityTV) and Mark Madryga (Global Vancouver and CKNW). Meet Marke and Mark and talk with them about their careers in broadcasting and meteorology. Both VIP mentors will be a part of the Alumni Mentoring Event and will be available at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the Student Lounge in the Student Activity Centre.
Directions 2003 will be a multi-faceted event. Visitors (including university and college students, senior high school students, and the general public) will encounter a wealth of information about all UCFV programs and services as well as career opportunities.
Employers will have an opportunity to recruit skilled people and students will be able to meet and learn from professionals working in many fields.
39 major local employers and/or employment sectors will be present at Directions 2003. Areas represented include financial services, health care, police and fire departments, educators, computers and technology, aerospace, the federal government, and agriculture.
"We anticipate a large audience including UCFV students and alumni, regional high school students, and members of the community," says organizer Susan Francis. "Employers will have a chance to provide potential employees with information on their company and career opportunities, collect resumes, and even recruit on the spot."
