Expert on giving coming to UCFV

Dr. Frank Minton, gift planner extraordinaire, is scheduled to speak at the University College of the Fraser Valley in February. Founder of Planned Giving Services and recipient of numerous distinguished awards in the area of development and philanthropy, he will share his gift of knowledge on February 26 at 7 p.m.

Dr. Minton will make his appearance through the generous support of McGuire & Hiebert Financial, in conjunction with the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, Fraser Valley RoundTable and UCFV.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer such a wonderful opportunity, not only for members of the CAGP Fraser Valley RoundTable, but also for not-for-profit board members and allied professionals with an interest in gift planning," says Vicki Raw, Director of Development for the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation. "Frank Minton is a highly regarded speaker and planned giving professional who pioneered the most comprehensive course in Canadian planned giving. We are honoured to have him as our guest speaker."

If you currently give your time and energy to charitable causes, sit on committees and boards, or work directly in development or with development planners, this evening seminar will be of specific benefit to you and your organization. Dr. Minton will take you on a journey through historical trends in giving to address current challenges facing non-profit organizations. He will provide insight into the reasons why and how individuals give, providing practical tips on how non-profit organizations and allied professional can assist donors, making the process of giving more rewarding, fulfilling, and effectual.

Before entering consulting in 1991, Dr. Minton spent more than a decade with the University of Washington, where he served as Director of Planned Giving and Executive Director of Development. Previously he served as Senior Estate Planning Officer and Field Director at Northwestern University, and was for six years a professor at Muskingum College in Ohio. He received MA and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago.

Dr. Minton has served both as conference chair and president of the National Committee on Planned Giving, a nationwide organization of gift planning professionals. In 1992 he received its Distinguished Service Award, and he currently chairs its Ethics Committee. He is Vice Chair of the American Council on Gift Annuities, directed its two nationwide surveys on gift annuities, was conference chair in 1995, currently chairs the Gift Annuity Rates Committee, and is an expert on state regulatory issues. He has also received a CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) Distinguished Service Award, the David Donaldson Distinguished Service Award from the Planned Giving Group of New England, and he was the first recipient of the Outstanding Development Officer Award from the Northwest Development Officers Association.

He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences, has authored many booklets and articles on planned giving topics, and is an author of Planned Giving for Canadians (Second Edition, 1997) and Charitable Gift Annuities: The Complete Resource Manual. A number of his presentations have been to Canadian audiences, and in 1997, he received the Friend of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners award. He is on the advisory board of Planned Giving Today, and is a member of the Seattle Estate Planning Council and the Washington Planned Giving Council.

The presentation will take place at the UCFV Abbotsford campus in B101, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. on February 26. To register for this free seminar, please call the UCFV Development office at 604.864.4697.
