Underemployed youth invited to work in China

Are you under 30 and underemployed (or unemployed)? Are you a graduate of a certificate, diploma, or degree program at least six months ago? Do you have the mobility and sense of adventure to pack up and live in China for six months, starting this March?

If this sounds like you, act quickly, because the deadline is fast approaching for a special Youth International program opportunity sponsored by Human Resources Development Canada.

UCFV's Centre for Co-operative Education & Employment Services has been awarded the contract to host the HRDC Youth International Program for 2003.

HRDC provides funding to organizations that set up work experiences on an international scale for unemployed or underemployed youth. These work experiences are intended to lead to long-term employment or self-employment for youth aged 15-30 years of age (at the time of intake selection), out of school (graduated for at least six months), and unemployed or underemployed. These internships also allow youth to gain professional experience while catering to the needs of emerging or growing Canadian businesses.

The centre has created six intern positions in Beijing, China, working at the Beijing Concord College of Sino-Canada (BCSC). Positions include marketing coordinators, computer information systems teaching assistant, computer information systems program advisor, website developer, and online course administrator. These positions are available to graduates from any discipline.

Interns will depart mid to late March for their six-month work experience in China. Before leaving they will undergo cultural and language training as well some of this training will be provided in China before they begin work. Additionally, upon their return interns will complete career planning and job search workshops.

UCFV is looking for graduates to fill all six positions. Further information, along with detailed job descriptions and an application form can be viewed on the UCFV Co-op Education and Employment Services website. Go to www.ucfv.ca/jobs and click on the Youth International link.
