Contact: Dave Stephen Conair donation helps UCFV students fly higher
Students in aviation- and aerospace-related programs at the University College of the Fraser Valley will have the opportunity to reach new heights thanks to a donation from the Conair Group. Conair, an aerospace-sector company based in Abbotsford, has donated $100,000 to UCFV to establish the Conair Group endowment fund to support four annual scholarships. Previously, Conair sponsored one scholarship annually, awarded to a BBA in Aviation student. The new donation brings the total number of Conair-endowed scholarships to four. Scholarships of $1,500 each will be available for deserving students enrolled in the following programs:
“This generous donation serves to solidify an already strong bond between UCFV and Conair Group,” said UCFV president Skip Bassford. “We are particularly grateful because it will create scholarships to support deserving students in each of our aerospace and aviation-related programs.” “We at Conair feel very strongly about supporting UCFV and helping young people gain access to education and training in our community,” said Barry Marsden, chief executive officer of the Conair Group, as well as Cascade Aerospace, another Abbotsford-based company. “Having been in business in this area for 35 years, we feel it’s appropriate to take some additional steps to support learning and youth locally.” UCFV awarded Marsden an honorary doctorate at its 2004 convocation ceremonies. - 30 - Back to November 2004 news releases
