Cascades basketball features ‘February Frenzy in the Fraser Valley’
Abbotsford – Due to a BCCAA scheduling quirk, the UCFV Basketball teams haven’t played a meaningful game at home since Nov. 1 last year. That will all change this month when the Cascades close the 2003-04 regular season with seven consecutive home games.
Beginning Fri., Feb. 6, with a doubleheader against the Capilano College Blues (women at 6 p.m.; men at 8 p.m.), and continuing on Feb. 7, 13, 14, 21, 27 and 28, the Cascades will be playing at the UCFV Student Activity Center. The BCCAA Provincial Championships will be played the following weekend in Kelowna.
To promote this slate of home games both on campus and in the community, the UCFV Athletics Department has adopted a ‘March Madness’ type moniker with a promotion entitled ‘February Frenzy in the Fraser Valley.’ The highlight of the promotion features a zany basketball contest during each half time in which fans selected from the audience will compete to earn a chance to shoot for a brand new Ford vehicle at half-time of the February 28 men’s game. The contest is sponsored by MSA Ford.
Other highlights of the February Frenzy will include the debut of UCFV’s very own Cheer Team, Fresh Burger and Frosty Beverage specials at Casey’s on Campus (where the games will be televised on the big screen), as well as contests and fan give-aways sponsored by the Ramada Abbotsford and the UCFV Students Union Society.
Admission is only $5 for adults, $3 for students with children 6 and under admitted free.
Both UCFV teams are undefeated at home this season with the Women’s team boasting a perfect 11-0 record and a #3 national ranking. The Cascade men are currently ranked #6 nationally with a league record of 9-2.
