Science Rocks! 

The Faculty of Science offers Science Rocks! summer camp every year in July- August. Designed especially for young people in Grades 4, 5, and 6 (campers going into Grade 4 or 7 are eligible). These camps are great fun and an awesome learning opportunity for campers.

ABORIGINAL CAMP

We have made arrangements with a number of different school principals to offer camp spots to their students by invitation.  If there are some camp spots open at the end of this invitation process, we will fill those spots from the waitlist.  Please find the waitlist application directly below.

2013 Camp Information

Each camp week will be organized around a central theme. Each day one or two activities will focus on that week's theme.  Over the course of a given week, campers can expect to experience activites from Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science.  Many of the weeks will also include activities from Geography and Kinesiology.

Camp 1: Things that fly!
July 8 - 12, 2013 (Abbotsford) - Cost $250 ($300 for international campers)
Each day one or two of the activities will focus on the theme of flight.

Camp 2: Fire and light!
July 15 - 19, 2013 (Abbotsford) - Cost $250 ($300 for international campers)
Each day one or two of the activities will focus on things that glow, interesting behaviours of light or even safe demonstrations involving fire.

Camp 3: Yuck week!
July 22 - 26, 2013 (Abbotsford) - Cost $250 ($300 for international campers)
Each day one or two of the activities will focus on things that stink, things that feel gross to the touch, or things that are just plain yucky.

Camp 4: Puzzles and mysteries!
July 29 - August 2, 2013 (Abbotsford) - Cost $250 ($300 for international campers)
Each day one or two of the activities will focus on mysteries and puzzles coming in many forms.

Camp 5: Activities that are awesome!
August 12 - 16, 2013 (Chilliwack) - Cost $250 ($300 for international campers)
For this week we plan to offer our most popular activities from all the Science Rocks! weeks.

Aboriginal Youth Camp
Aug 6 - 9, 2013 (Chilliwack) - Cost $25
For this week we plan to offer our most popular activities from all the Science Rocks! weeks. Please note this camp is offered at a greatly reduced cost.

NOTE: An International Student is a student who has neither a Canadian passport nor a permanent resident document.


Time (includes lunch every day)

Camps 1-5
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Drop-off is between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m.
Pick-up between 4:00 and 4:30 p.m.

Aboriginal Camp
9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Drop-off is between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m.
Pick-up between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m.

Location

We are either indoors or outside depending on the weather and the activity.

Drop-off and pick-up locations are as follows:
Camps 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Abbotsford (locations to be finalized)
Camp 5 and Aboriginal Camp in Chilliwack (locations to be finalized):

Student/Leader Ratios

We have a limit of 24 campers/week, for a camper to instructor ratio of 8:1. In addition to the leader-facilitators, one or more UFV Science Faculty members will be on site at all times.

Three camps         $675 ($825 for international)
Four camps           $900 ($1100 for international)
