| NEW PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS |
| The history program has undergone program revisions that will take effect in the 2009/2010 academic year. Students who have already declared their major, extended minor, or minor may choose whether they wish to meet the old requirements or the new requirements. Students who are still early in their program may wish to meet the new requirements which offer greater course choice flexibility. Students who declare in the 2009/2010 academic year will be expected to meet the new program requirements. |

| HISTORY MAJOR REQUIREMENTS-BEGINNING 2009/10 |
|
| Lower-level requirements: 18 credits |
|
| Three 100- or 200 level credits in each of the following four breadth areas: |
- Canada: one of HIST 101, 102, 103, 105, 220, 226
- United States/Latin America: one of HIST 241, 242, 243, 261, 262
- Europe: one of HIST 108, 109, 110, 208, 209, 210
- Asia/Middle East: one of HIST 115, 235, 236, 264, 265

| An addional six 100- or 200 level history credits. |

| Note: Students may count three credits from THEA 201 or THEA 202 towards their history major or extended minor requirements. |

| Upper-level requirements: 32 credits |
|
|
Four 300- or 400 level credits in each of the following four breadth areas: |
- Canada: one of HIST 301, 321, 322, 323 (or EDUC 323), 324, 325, 327, 329, 330, (396G, H), 424, 425, 426, 428, 430, 431, 436, 484, (499C, H, I)
- United States/Latin America: one of HIST 340, 357, 358, 359, 370, 374, 375,
(396C, E), 454, 456, 457, 458, 459D
- Europe: one of HIST 308, 309, 310, 311, 313, 314, 315, 317, 318, 319, 320, 390, (397D, E, G), 408, 410, 412, 414, 415, 418, 420, 485, 499D
- Asia/Middle East: one of HIST 335, 364, 381, 382, 385, 398, 464, 465, 486, 487

An additional sixteen 300- or 400-level history credits from any of the breadth categories or HIST 300, 401, 489, or 490. |

Note: Of the 32 upper-level credits, a minimum of 12 credits must be at the 300-level and a minimum of 12 credits must be at the 400-level. |

| HISTORY MAJOR REQUIREMENTS-PRIOR TO 2009/10 |
|
| Lower-level requirements: 18 credits |
|
- Eighteen credits of 100-or 200-level history
|

Note: Students must take upper-level courses in three breadth areas: North America, Europe, and Asia/Latin America. It is recommended that students take lover-level courses in each of the breadth areas. |

| Upper-level requirements: 32 credits |
|
- 12 credits at the 300-level
- 12 credits at the 400-level
- 8 credits at the 300- or 400-level
|
|
Note: Students must complete eight upper-level credits in each of the following three breadth areas: North America, Europe, and Asia/Latin America.
Credits from HIST 301 will count toward the North American area; credits from HIST 300 may be counted toward any of these areas but HIST 300 and HIST 301 may not be counted toward the same breadth area. Credits from HIST 401 will not be counted for the purpose of the breadth requrement.
Note: Students may count three credits from THEA 201 or THEA 202 towards their history major or extended minor requirements.
Note: Students may count EDUC 323 toward the history major, extended minor requirements or minor requirements.
