About the Esposito Family Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (EFCIE)

The Esposito Family Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (EFCIE) is a research centre at the University of the Fraser Valley. EFCIE works to foster an inclusive, vibrant, and resilient space for innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives for the UFV and Fraser Valley communities. EFCIE's activities include research, course development, and mentoring both students and local entrepreneurs. EFCIE also emphasizes community outreach through events and projects that explore the interactions between technology, innovation, and society.

Posting Details

EFCIE invites applications from qualified academics wishing to be considered for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow: Esposito Family Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship for a one-year term (renewable).

The postdoctoral fellow will work with the Director (EFCIE) on projects in science and technology commercialization and innovation policy. Sectors of focus can include biotechnology, clean technology, or agriculture. Research at EFCIE often involves a blend of qualitative and quantitative techniques directed towards examining early-stage science and technology ventures, emerging technologies and industry sectors, or economic development opportunities in first nations communities.

The postdoctoral fellow will work with the Director on existing projects and is expected to develop multiple grant applications. The candidate, can, if desired, pursue teaching opportunities in the region in consultation with the Director.

The position is based at EFCIE on UFV’s Abbotsford campus but will need to be active within the region. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain collaborative relationships within UFV, and with external organizations, and mentor undergraduate students on research projects.

Qualifications

A completed or very nearly completed Doctoral degree is required in areas related to innovation and technology management. A strong publication record is required, and academic grant writing experience is a major asset. Prior research at the industry or firm-level in the biotechnology, clean technology, or agriculture sectors will be an asset. Experience in applied research including research project management is preferred. Candidates fluent in the use of STATA, NVIVO, and social network analysis tools are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience liaising with external agencies/ institutions/partners is an asset. A valid driver’s license is required to facilitate project-related travel as needed. 

The applicant will have excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills. They should have exceptional organizational and time management skills, be self-directed, proactive, accountable, and discrete. They will have a proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment, and work to deadlines with multiple demands and priorities.
