Prepare for the Career Fair

Employers are on the lookout to recruit the best candidates. How can you stand out and get noticed in a competitive marketplace?

Follow these five simple steps.

1

Register now for the Career Fair and win prizes

It is never too early to start networking and look for that perfect job. Even if you are not graduating this June, you can get a head start on your career planning. The UFV Career Fair is an ideal setting to learn about full-time, part-time and summer job opportunities with some of the Fraser Valley's top employers. RSVP for the Career Fair now to win a UFV tuition credit!

2

Volunteer for the Career Fair and get extra exposure behind the scenes

Volunteering is an excellent way to gain experience for your résumé. It also gives you an unique vantage point to reach out to the 60+ employers who will attend the 2014 Career Fair. And if you volunteer for 20 hours or more, you can include this experience in your Co-curricular Record.

3

Attend a career peer drop-in to polish your résumé and cover letter

The Career Peer program provides you with one-on-one assistance to polish your résumé and cover letter. Career peers are also knowledgeable about career resources and can help you make the best of the services offered at the Career Centre.

Check the list of Career Fair exhibitors for employers who are of interest to you. Check their website and customize your résumé to appeal to their needs.

On the day of the fair, come prepared with your résumé ready to hand out to the select employers of your choice.

4

Order business cards that you can hand out to prospective employers

Order personalized UFV student business cards to impress during job interviews and at networking events. UFV student business cards are professional and designed specifically for UFV students. They are a great tool to have while you go from booth to booth at the fair to provide prospective  employers with your contact information.

5

Attend one or all the special Career Fair Workshops

To help you prepare to make the best of the Career Fair on March 12, 2014, the Career Centre is offering a series of four events. Attend at least three and you could win a Samsung Galaxy 3 tablet!
