The Bachelor of Science in Physics allows you to explore the nature of matter, energy, and their interactions, both theoretically and experimentally.
In this program, you learn early on about fundamental topics like electromagnetism, wave physics, thermodynamics, and relativity. Upper level courses then give you the opportunity to discuss advanced topics like quantum theory and fluid mechanics, applying principles of mathematics to the material world around you.
The Physics program also includes options for Engineering and Mechatronics, if applied sciences piques your interest.
- integrates classroom theory with a variety of potential lab experiments and hands-on projects.
- encourages exploration of new and current ideas, and challenges you to learn and enquire about the universe in new and complex ways.
A study conducted by the Hamilton Project found that majors that emphasize quantitative skills tend to have graduates with the highest lifetime earnings. Physics graduates can expect to earn just as much as professionals in computer science, engineering, economics, and finance.
As a physics graduate, you can find work in government or industry labs, in technical fields such as radiation monitoring or power plants, or as a scientific equipment operator. Or you can pair your physics degree with UFV's enriched Teacher Education program to launch a teaching career.
A UFV physics degree can also position you for entry into graduate studies in any number of disciplines. Many physics graduates go on to advance their studies and careers as economists, financial consultants, industrial researchers, systems analysts, computer programmers, engineers, biophysicists, or astronomers.
The entrance requirements of the Bachelor of Science degree will apply to the Biology program.
View entrance requirements in the UFV Academic Calendar.
Students can declare a major in Physics after completion of at least 30 university-level credits with a minimum of 2.0 CGPA on all credits attempted, and after meeting the declaration requirements for Physics.
This program is open to international students
Students who do not meet the entrance requirements can upgrade in order to meet prerequisites for university classes.
Make an appointment with a Upgrading and University Preparation advisor to discuss your upgrading needs.
