Student support meeting experience

What to expect at your student support meeting

We understand that meeting new people in support roles or navigating new locations can make you feel nervous and uncertain. We want to make sure you have the information you need to feel confident about your meeting with a Student Support Coordinator.

Meeting format options

You can connect with your Student Support Coordinator:

  • in person,
  • virtually,
  • by phone,
  • or in some cases communicate only via email.

If you require additional considerations or options, please discuss them with your Student Support Coordinator.

Virtual meetings

For virtual meetings, we will be using Microsoft Teams and a meeting link will be sent to you by email. You do not need a Teams account to join our meeting. You can choose to have your camera on or off; it’s your choice.

How to find the Student Support Centre

A group of students in front of the Student Union Building

The Student Support Centre is located on the first floor of the Student Union Building (S-building) on the Abbotsford campus, at the north end of the building.

Look for the Student Experience Lounge; you'll find the Student Support Centre inside the lounge.

If you are bringing a vehicle, park in Lot 10.

See the Abbotsford campus map.

The Student Support Centre is located inside the Student Experience lounge.

A smiling lounge leader assists a visitor

When you arrive at the Student Experience lounge, look for a Lounge Leader working at the front desk; they will assist you when you arrive. If no Lounge Leader is on shift, the Student Support Coordinator will meet you at the front desk at your scheduled time.

The Lounge is open for all students to use. You can expect that some days there will be small events, puzzles on tables, or a more lively Jenga game; at times students just use this as a quiet space to study. You are welcome to enjoy the space before or after your support meeting (or anytime it's open!)

In-person meeting spaces

Each of our offices is equipped with chairs with and without armrests, a small table, and windows on the back wall with blinds that keep the space private. When we meet, the door will be closed and not locked.

Accessibility accommodations

We are located on the first floor of the Student Union Building with two accessible entrances into the space. Each of our offices is equipped with chairs with and without armrests and a small table.

We want to hear how we can make your meeting more comfortable. Here are some examples of what has been requested in the past:

  • Meeting at the entrance to the building
  • Meeting at a different location or building on campus
  • Bringing an interpreter or support person
  • Meeting at a different campus

If you enter our space and notice something that could be made more accessible please email us at studentsupport@ufv.ca.
