College of Arts

Meet UFV Arts

Who we are

The College of Arts is an interdisciplinary and transformative community, offering a robust intellectual foundation through the exploration of ideas and issues in the liberal arts tradition. We guide students through vital discoveries that change their understanding of the past and prepare them for the challenges of the future.

The College of Arts is home to the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences and includes 14 academic departments and schools. Our faculty complement is comprised of approximately 130 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, and approximately 145 active sessional and limited-term instructors. We serve over 3,000 students each year, in classes offered in person on the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses, and online. We share a passion for learning and for making a difference in the world.

College of Arts dean Sylvie Murray

A letter from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Arts. We are a dynamic and inclusive community of students, faculty members, and staff who share a passion for learning and for making a difference in the world.

We deliver programs of the highest quality which engage curiosity and intellect, and honour varied backgrounds, values, and aspirations. Students shape their own career paths by integrating work experience and community service directly in their educational journeys.

We uphold the values of a Liberal Arts education. We cultivate independent judgment that is informed by knowledge, curiosity, and compassion. We enhance our individual and collective capacity to dialogue across differences. We are active participants in the socio-economic, political, and cultural life of our community and the world.
