How to book your first counselling session

If you need immediate support outside UFV Counselling’s hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm), the following resources are available 24/7:

For non-urgent concerns or to connect during office hours, please contact us.

For personal crises after 4:30 pm or on weekends (when UFV Counselling is closed), contact the Suicide Crisis Helpline at 9-8-8.

You don’t have to go through it alone

If you’re feeling stuck, stressed, or unsure where to turn, you don’t have to sort things out on your own. UFV Counselling is here to listen and support you. Reaching out is a powerful first step toward feeling more grounded, gaining perspective, and finding the tools to move forward. Follow the steps below to book your first session — we’re here when you’re ready.

Book your first appointment in four easy steps

Go to the Student Health and Wellness Portal

Click on the ‘Book an appointment’ button below to begin. This will take you to the UFV Student Health and Wellness Portal.

Note: Only current UFV students can access the portal using their student login.

Update your personal information

After logging in:

  • Click on Profile in the left nav menu.
 
  • Make sure your contact details are up to date

Complete the Counselling Consent form

Next, complete the Counselling Initial Contact & Informed Consent form:

  • Click on Form Required on the left side menu.
 
  • To start the form, select click here.
 

  • Fill out the Counselling Initial Contact & Informed Consent form.
  • Once complete, click Continue to submit.

You're all set — check your email for confirmation

You'll receive an email in a few business days. It will include steps to booking your Initial Consultation Appointment with our Intake Counsellor.

If you can't attend your in-person session and would like to switch to a virtual appointment, please feel free to call the Student Services Front Desk.

We provide individual appointments for personal, career and academic success counselling. Sessions are offered in-person, virtually (via Zoom) or over the phone. Same-day single-session brief urgent appointments are available.

We also offer workshops and outreach events focusing on student wellness, career exploration, and study habits.

Yes. Your sessions are private and confidential. UFV does not keep counselling records in your academic or work files.

We’ll only share information if:

  • There’s a serious safety concern (risk of harm to you or others)
  • There’s suspected abuse or neglect of a minor
  • A court order requires it

Counsellors may also consult with one another to ensure you get the best support, but your privacy is always respected.
