The work of the EDI and HRO is informed by a decolonized, anti-oppression and anti-racist framework and a human rights-based approach. We do this through engagement and outreach, and through collaboration we work to provide expertise, support, advice, and consultation on issues related to equity, anti-oppression, and human rights. We work to advance institutional capacity and address systemic barriers through the development and review of policies, processes, training and education, tools and resources, through dialogue and discussion. We work independently and with objectivity to address human-rights code-related discrimination and harassment complaints.
This work is disruptive. That’s the point.
The creation of the office and the ongoing work is the result of the tremendous efforts of equity champions from across UFV who have for years dedicated their advocacy and energy, and expertise to enhancing equity consciousness and dismantling institutional barriers across the University.
We carry forward this ever-evolving work for transformative change, which is co-created together with the UFV community.
