English Language Studies (ELS) certificate program

The ELS program includes English upgrading core courses to improve basic reading, writing, and speaking skills at the intermediate and advanced levels.

Other programs and UFV’s English language proficiency requirement  

Several courses that form part of the ELS program provide support for other programs at UFV, including: 

In addition, several courses at the Advanced II and Academic levels of the program satisfy UFV’s English language proficiency requirement.

 

Admission requirements and study options

Students who apply to the program may need to take a placement test to be admitted to specific proficiency levels and courses. 

Classes are held at UFV’s Abbotsford campus during the fall, winter, and summer semesters. Most classes are held on weekday mornings and afternoons, and some evening classes are offered at different times throughout the year.

*Due to COVID-19, all ELS courses will be delivered in a fully online format for fall 2020.

 

When to apply

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis throughout the year. Please note, however, that application and registration procedures are different for domestic and international students.
