Seeking 6 Performers for this contemporary take on Sophocles’ powerful tragedy about the individual’s struggle to resist injustice. *See list of characters below.

We will be experimenting with creating a live performance through a virtual platform—an important challenge being taken up by theatre artists around the world.

Performers with a wide-range of talents are encouraged to audition!

Casting is gender neutral.

Audition Requirements:

Prepare a 2-minute piece (monologue, song, dance, spoken word, etc.) that showcases your strengths as a performer. Auditions will be held via zoom.

Please dress in comfortable clothes that will allow you to move.

If cast, the performer commits to being available for rehearsals from September 21 to November 24; and a performance run from November 25 to 28, 2020. The exact dates and times will be published with the production schedule. All work on this production will be conducted virtually.

Those auditioning will be asked to fill out an audition form, outlining previous performance experience and training as well as work, school, and personal schedule between September and November. While all members of the UFV community are welcome to audition, please note that casting priority is given to those enrolled in UFV’s theatre program. UFV students participating as actors in main stage productions will receive either a 290 or 291 practicum credit for their participation.

Call for Student Play Proposals for 2020-21 Season of Theatre

Theatre students are invited to submit proposals for projects to be included in UFV Theatre’s 2020-21 season.

Theatre students are invited to submit proposals for projects to be included in UFV Theatre’s 2020-21 season. To be considered for directing shows, students should have completed or be enrolled in THEA 451 or 452, or have equivalent experience, and should have completed at least 60 university credits. We also recommend that student directors have completed THEA 121 and THEA 123. Proposed projects should be maximum 90 minutes in length, with casts of four or fewer performers, and minimal set and technical requirements. This is a call for proposals to be officially included in the season and require a high level of advance planning, organization, maturity, and responsibility on the part of student directors.

The department also offers students the opportunity to propose pop-up theatre projects, which are indie-style projects where the department provides students with performance space, minimal tech support, and a small budget – proposals for pop-up theatre projects are accepted on an ongoing basis and are scheduled after the official season is determined.

If you have questions or wish to discuss a potential proposal, please set up a meeting with Heather Davis-Fisch or Leigh Kerr. To propose a project, please submit a complete proposal
to and please copy Proposals will be accepted on an ongoing basis, but for full consideration, please submit a proposal by January 7, 2020.
